New submarines will strengthen Taiwan's deterrence, claim defense experts
Tension between China-Taiwan has increased after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan . China is constantly conducting military exercises in waters and airspace along the border with the island nation of Taiwan. Amidst all this, defense experts believe that a new fleet of modern submarines could help Taipei build a strong water resistance against Beijing.
In an RTI report published on Thursday, experts said the new submarines would help Taiwan stop China.
Taiwan to launch indigenous submarine
Let us tell you that Taiwan’s first indigenous submarine is likely to be launched in September of this year. Michael Thim, a researcher working on Taiwan’s defense sector at the Prague-based think tank Association for International Affairs, said Taiwan’s indigenous defense submarine program is essential. However, these submarines are not capable of stopping the Chinese attack on their own, but they constitute a strong deterrent force.
America's cooperation in providing submarine technology
Thim also said that Taiwan has been able to employ foreign experts for years for its development plans in terms of submarine capabilities. The US has always cooperated in providing key submarine technologies to Taiwan. Thiem said that in the future, Taiwan will seek the help of countries that build excellent submarines such as Japan.
China more powerful than Taiwan
Let us tell you that in the case of submarines, China is many times more powerful than Taiwan. At present, China has 60 submarines equipped with modern technology. On the other hand, Taiwan has only 4 submarines. Among them, two submarines of the High She class belong to the time of World War II. The other two are the Netherlands-built Hai Chien-class submarines of the 1980s, which have been upgraded to damage enemy ships. But its effect is very less.
