Football’s apex body FIFA on Friday lifted the ban imposed on the All India Football Federation (AIFF). After this decision, the Under-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in October will also be held in India. A statement issued by FIFA said that, ‘This decision has been taken after confirming the removal of the Committee of Administrators (COA) and the re-assignment of the responsibility of the day-to-day functioning of the All India Football Association (AIFF) to it. FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will monitor the situation and assist in the timely conduct of AIFF elections. After this decision, now the Under-17 Women’s World Cup to be held from October 11 to 30 will be held in India as per the schedule.
AIFF wrote a letter to FIFA
The FIFA Council Bureau on 16 August decided to suspend the AIFF with immediate effect due to undue influence of third parties. However, a few days later, the Supreme Court had decided to remove the CoA, after which the AIFF wrote a letter to FIFA demanding the lifting of the ban on it.
